One of the options that I have thought through is a string. Two strings (a bare copper wire) stretched diagonally though the room. This is about 12 V. Between them in a glass or a plastic (like butterflies, for example) three LEDs with a resistor.
IMHO, this can be done very nicely. Ponder. With a spot source of light the design possibilities are very large. Only you need to find "your own" decision.
There is a good option when the canisters hidden in the curtains of windows. Then the light will flow from the windows sloped. Lamps will be invisible. And what does it mean "classic"?
Incandescent lamps are disappearing and will be banned soon.
There are energy-saving or "economical" lamps, which fear the number of inclusions, give a decent energy for heating the starting equipment in the lamp socket, less robust and discharge.
There are also halogen lamps that don’t have much difference from incandescent bulbs. Did I miss something?
If you are talking about a kerosene lamp, then it is really unrivaled. My friend bought it for fishing, so, now it does not want to leave it. And the color is so nice (classic) and the autonomy, but still it is warm. Even the mobile phone can be charged. I would not advise. They have a different purpose to create a directed beam of light. The room needs a scattered light.
That's the problem for 12 V for domestic premises there is almost nothing. A clean car, disco lights and RGB are not good, IMHO. For the living conditions bulbs 220 V released. But I was very unhappy with them. Therefore, I began to make DIY as an amateur.
